CSI: Vegas Boss Teases Great Season 2 Storylines For All Characters

The showrunner of CSI: Vegas teases there are great ideas planned for season 2. Continuing the long-running procedural drama, the CSI revival separates itself from the original by taking a more serialized approach to its narrative. When viewers are once again introduced to the titular investigative team, they face a serious threat that threatens to bring down the entire Crime Lab. To combat this, a new group of investigators led by Maxine Roby (Paula Newsome) looks to the help of old friends — including Gil Grissom (William Petersen) and Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox) — to get to the bottom of a case centered around former colleague David Hodges (Wallace Langham).

Season 1, which premiered in October 2021, saw Maxine being suspended in connection to work with solving the investigation. Ultimately, it’s revealed that Hodges was framed for witness tampering. CSI: Vegas showrunner Jason Tracey has been open about wanting to tell more stories. Given the fact that the hit procedural was recently renewed for season 2, Tracey can now share a little bit of what to expect when the show returns.

Speaking with TV Insider, Tracey shed some light on the future of CSI: Vegas. The showrunner and executive producer said there are a lot more stories he’s looking to explore in the future. Tracey also said the limits of season 1, which consisted of ten episodes, and the time constraints meant the writers couldn’t explore the ideas they had in mind for each character. Read Tracey’s quote below.

I will say there’s a lot more story to tell with all these folks that we’re excited to dig into in Season 2. I wouldn’t want to spoil too much too soon, but there were great ideas for everybody that you can’t get to because time is finite. And I’m excited to get back into the room with writers.

Though most of the characters introduced in the revival will return, Petersen will not be back as Grissom for CSI: Vegas season 2. He’ll remain an executive producer on the project, but the actor had only agreed to appear in the first ten episodes of the series. Luckily, Fox's contract enables her to continue with the show if she wants to. It’s been reported that producers are feeling hopeful that will happen. Even without the veteran cast members, the revival introduced a trio of actors new to the franchise; Matt Lauria, Mandeep Dhillon, and Mel Rodriguez are all likely to get the spotlight moving forward.

Still, CSI: Vegas has left viewers guessing about Gil and Sara. The revival’s fourth episode scrapped a scene of the two characters sharing a kiss. Tracey explained that, while it might have been an exciting hook to draw the attention of longtime viewers, he felt it didn’t make sense in terms of the story. It remains to be seen whether the original duo will get to enjoy much on-screen intimacy, perhaps with Petersen in a special guest appearance. For now, it makes sense to turn the attention to another set of characters to see if they can pull in the ratings needed to carry the franchise forward.
