Jason Momoa In Talks For Fast & Furious 10 Villain Role

Aquaman star Jason Momoa is in talks to star in Fast & Furious 10 with reports indicating he will star as one of the film's main villains. Development on the tenth installment in the long-running action franchise was announced in late 2020 with the reveal that it and Fast and Furious 11 would act as the conclusion of the mainline series. Justin Lin, who made his franchise debut with The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and has since helmed four sequels, including the recent F9: The Fast Saga, is set to return to helm both installments.

Production on Fast & Furious 10 was expected to begin in 2020 with a release date set for early 2021 and franchise writer Chris Morgan returning to pen the script. However, due to multiple COVID-19-related delays, filming and the release date have been pushed back multiple times, with the title currently slated for a May 2023 release date with original cast members Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris and Sung Kang all slated to return. With recent villains John Cena and Charlize Theron also slated to return for Fast & Furious 10, it looks like the roster isn't done growing yet.

The Hollywood Reporter has brought word that Jason Momoa is in final negotiations to join the Fast & Furious 10 cast. Though sources note that plot details are currently under wraps on the sequel, word is that the Aquaman star is eyeing one of the villain roles in the film. Production on Fast & Furious 10 is also reportedly set to get underway this spring.

Momoa's casting in Fast & Furious 10 is an exciting prospect for the franchise, which has seen the last few films draw in high-profile performers Charlize Theron, John Cena and Jason Statham to play the primary antagonists. Interestingly, the report of Momoa's casting also notes that the script is still in the works and that some sources are noting his role may fall somewhere in between protagonist and antagonist. It wouldn't be the first time a character in the Fast & Furious franchise walked both sides of the line, with Statham's Deckard Shaw becoming a protagonist in the Dwayne Johnson-co-led spin-off Hobbs & Shaw and Cena's estranged Toretto brother Jakob redeeming himself by the end of F9: The Fast Saga.

Should Momoa take on a Fast & Furious 10 villain role, it would mark the first time in over five years that the actor has served as an antagonist in a film since 2017's Once Upon a Time in Venice and The Bad Batch. It would also be an interesting development for the story of the sequel, given F9 saw Theron's Cipher escape once again to terrorize the Toretto family in one of the upcoming final films. Though audiences have more than a year to wait for Fast & Furious 10, they can look forward to seeing Momoa return to the DC Extended Universe with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom this December.
