Pokémon Legends: Arceus allows the player character to change their clothes and hairstyle, but they will first have to prove themselves worthy of joining the Survey Corps before they will be allowed to change their look. At the start of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the player will choose a template for their main character, including their gender, skin tone, and hair color, but they will start out in a generic set of clothes.
The Pokémon series has gradually incorporated character customization, starting with the ability to select character gender in Pokémon Crystal. It wasn't until the Nintendo 3DS era that Game Freak embraced letting the player define different aspects of their character, including skin tone and clothing. The level of customization on offer has wavered in different Pokémon games, with many fans being disappointed with the lack of options in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus does a much better job of offering character customization options than Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, as there are a number of different outfits on offer, and it's possible to change hairstyles without them being tied to an outfit. The player can also change their eye color, using lenses that are given for free at the start of the game.
The player character spends the opening hour of Pokémon Legends: Arceus wearing modern-day clothes which cannot be changed out of. Once the player has completed the first mission in the Obsidian Fields (the one where they must catch a Bidoof, a Starly, and a Shinx), they will be made a member of the Survey Corps and given a satchel. The player will then be prompted to return to their room and change. This is done by selecting the long mirror next to their bed. The player can use this mirror anytime they want to change their outfits. The player can also visit the clothier in Jubilife village to buy and change clothes without using the mirror. The clothier will also provide the save unlock bonuses clothes in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, including the Shaymin Kimono, the Modern Galactic Set, and the Eevee & Pikachu masks, assuming they have specific save data on their Nintendo Switch.
Once the player has unlocked the option to change clothes, they can visit Edith the hairdresser, who has a store next to the clothier. The player can pay five hundred Pokémon dollars to change their hair. The clothier and the hairdresser are both across the road from the main character's residence.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus is available now for Nintendo Switch.
