90 Day Fiancé cast member Ben Rathbun has reportedly been fired from his place of work amidst news of his arrest for a probation violation. Michigan man Ben is the star of the ongoing 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days season 5 with Peru woman Mahogany Roca, who’s 30 years younger than him. Ben and Mahogany never spoke on video calls, and all her photos on Instagram were heavily filtered. But Mahogany’s friend request to Ben led to them chatting for three months straight, after which he thought it was God’s plan for them to get married. While fans watched Mahogany playing games with Ben on the show, they also saw his mugshot and wondered what happened.
Even though Ben and Mahogany arrived fashionably late to 90 Day Fiancé, fans got a creepy vibe from him. Ben’s interest in a 22-year-old woman, the same age as his daughter, on TV didn’t help, and not many were surprised when the news of his arrest surfaced online. On March 15, it was reported that Ben was arrested in a bust related to an alleged OUI, which means operating while under the influence of alcohol, and driving with a suspended license back in 2020. He was sentenced to 18 months of probation in January 2021. Ben had a probation violation hearing in February, which he didn’t show up for. This led to a judge issuing a bench warrant, after which he was eventually booked.
It seems Ben has now been sentenced to 15 days of community service and 24 months of probation. He was also ordered to spend two days in jail, but the court credited him with the time Ben served after his arrest. While he may have received a relatively light sentence, his workplace hasn’t been too generous with him. Reddit user Meowgal_80 shared an update from the Michigan Lupus Foundation, which is where Ben worked as the Executive Director, according to his LinkedIn page. The homepage of the Michigan Lupus Foundation’s website displays the message, “Ben Rathbun is no longer with the Michigan Lupus Foundation, effective immediately,” suggesting he’s been fired.
The message continues, “The Foundation continues to put our lupus warriors first, and we will continue with our mission without interruption.” The statement was signed by “The Michigan Lupus Foundation Board of Directors.” According to a different Reddit post by Sea-SaltCaramel from March 22, the Foundation’s website’s previous message read, “We are aware of Ben’s situation, and he is currently on suspension from his position with the Michigan Lupus Foundation.” Ben used to work as a lead pastor at the Gospel Life Church around 13 years and 8 months prior to that.
Ben’s real job wasn’t mentioned on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days, in which he spoke about being a fitness model. Fitness modeling is in fact something that he does on the side but rarely because he hardly makes a living from it. According to Ben, his main aim in life was to help others and pour his life and soul into his charity where he supposedly no longer works. In fact, Ben had once told his Instagram followers that one of the key reasons he decided to participate in 90 Day Fiancé was to raise awareness about the organization and Lupus. Still, fans suspected Ben only had money on his mind and called him thirsty for asking his Instagram followers to connect with him on Cameo, a paid platform, if they had any questions about it. Over the past few weeks, the number of questions about Ben and even Mahogany has only increased, which means Ben can surely make a cool profit with Cameo as his side gig.
