New images of the Eternals cast give fans new a new look at the team's superhero suits and regular modern day clothes. Following hot on the heels of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Eternals promises to delve into new territory for the MCU when it releases later this year. The film tells the story of a team of Eternals, immortal aliens who have lived on Earth for thousands of years, and whose duty it is to protect humans from a sinister race of humanoids known as Deviants.
Eternals stars Angelina Jolie as Thena, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kit Harrington as Black Knight, Gemma Chan as Sersi, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Barry Keoghan as Druig, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, and Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos. Chloé Zhao, who is best known for her work on the Oscar-winning 2020 film Nomadland, is directing the film, marking her first foray into superhero movies and away from smaller-scale, indie dramas.
In a new cover feature in Total Film magazine, (via Games Radar), exclusive new Eternals images were released, showing off the team's superhero and modern day costumes. One image shows Zhao giving direction to Gemma Chan, who wears a striking green superhero costume. Another image features Nanjiani, Chan, and McHugh in regular street clothes in a small village in the woods, with Nanjiani donning a bold purple jacket and jeans. The final image, in addition to showing Nanjiani, Chan, and McHugh, also provides a glimpse of Madden, Jolie, and Lee in their modern day costumes. Check out the new images below:

The jungle village setting in the background of the new images appears to be the home of Barry Keoghan's character, Druig. In the most recent trailer for Eternals, when Madden's Ikarus tells Chan's Sersi they need to find "the others," Chan replies, "I haven't seen some of them for centuries," hinting that some Eternals have broken off and sought solitude in remote places. After a visit to Druig's village, Jolie's Thena is also introduced as having a small home in the middle of a barren prairie landscape, and appears to be wearing the same white dress that is shown in the newly released images.
An interesting thing to note in the images of Chan in her superhero costume is that the outfit seems to have been created practically, instead of with CGI. Many new superhero movies are becoming more reliant on CGI for superhero suits, the most notable example being the time travel suits in Avengers: Endgame, which were entirely digital. The costuming reflects Zhao's approach to filmmaking in general and her desire to do things practically whenever possible. According to Marvel president Kevin Feige, Zhao always pushed to film on location during production, despite the studio's desire to use green screens. Zhao's attitude towards physical settings seems to have carried over to the costuming as well, with each character's costume feeling very textured and tangible. Audiences will be able to see for themselves how all of this has paid off when Eternals releases in theaters.
