Gorogoa is a strikingly beautiful puzzle game in which players manipulate images within a two-by-two grid in order to help a young boy collect five colorful fruits to add to his bowl. As players progress, the world around the red-shirted boy changes, and an ever-present monster looms in the background. However, Gorogoa’s puzzle involves multiple layers in each image players encounter, resulting in a deep, intricately-woven puzzle that requires players to think outside the box as they examine each image and change them to help the boy progress. Chapter 4 picks up from where the boy was standing after getting the yellow fruit from the previous chapter, and he’ll continue on in search of the blue fruit next.
Players must zoom out from the panel where the boy is standing in the doorway to reveal several black and white photographs hanging on a wall. There’s a map drawn on a piece of paper tacked near where the red-shirt boy is standing that points to a door with the fruit symbol. Return to the studying man’s house in the other panel and zoom in on him as he imagines the red-shirt boy falling. Move this layer to reveal the panel underneath it in which a man wearing a yellow-shirt is having the same falling daydream in front of a window. The monster will appear in the daydream before disappearing and leaving a glimpse of the town’s buildings. Move this panel to reveal a large map underneath. The map will change as it moves over the other panels, and the bottom right panel will reveal an image of a monk framed in a gold star.
Zoom in to Gorogoa's towers connected by a set of stairs in the background of the monk image. The towers align with the doors in the panel with the red-shirt boy, and players can layer the towers over the doors to allow the boy to climb the stairs and progress. The player can then move the tower panel away to allow him to continue to the right, causing the monster to appear in the panel with the towers and changing it from day to night. Zoom back out from the towers to reveal a different image of the monk, then zoom out again to reveal a framed photo of a golden gear with four images on it. Zoom back into these images so all four are centered in the panel.

In the panel with the yellow-shirt man, zoom into the bell that he has revealed on the table in Gorogoa. Clicking the circular design on the handle will reveal another area that players can reach by panning up. An old man with a cane will begin walking to the right, ringing the bell at each gazebo he reaches. Back in the studying man’s panel, zoom into the bookshelf behind him and select the book with the bell on the spine. Zoom in until the castle wall in the back fills the frame. The sun at the top of this panel will align with the gear at the bottom of the gear panel. Move the panel with the gears to the top right corner, the panel with castle wall to the bottom right, and the panel with the bell-ringing man to the bottom left to put the pieces of the scene together. As the man walks and causes the castle wall to scroll, the gears will turn, allowing players to zoom into the image of the bell-ringing man when it’s on the left side of the gear. Zoom into the arches in the back to reveal a crumbling doorway.
In the panel with the photographs in Chapter 4 of Gorogoa, zoom into the picture to the right to follow the red-shirt boy, allowing him to move to the newly-created door. Zoom out from the photograph and zoom into the picture in the lower right of the panel where a man sits on a box with his cane. This will reveal a door with the blue fruit symbol in the back. Players can then move the panel with the red-shirt boy over this panel to align the doorways, allowing him to enter the door. Wait for the walking man to reach the next gazebo and ring the bell, then move the panel with crumbling door frame back to the empty frame to reveal that the boy has moved to a new location. Once again, the monster will appear, changing the time of day in the door frame panel from day to night. Zooming out from this panel will reveal a stained glass-style image of two women holding candles.
Zoom out from the panel with the blue fruit symbol door to return to the wall of photographs and zoom into the map fragment near where the red-shirt boy is standing. In the panel with the sun, zoom out to return to the bookshelf and select the blue book on the left side. In the panel with the bell-ringing man, pan down to return to the circular pattern and zoom out to return to the bell on the table. Examine the candle to the right to reveal a panel with trees. Pan down to find a man setting candles on a shrine, then zoom into the wheel of his cart.
Zoom out from the stained-glass panel to reveal the entire window in Gorogoa, then layer this panel over the cart wheel and wait for the cart to come to a stop, aligning the two designs. The next time the man moves his cart, the entire window will turn with it. Wait for the window to rotate until the image with the blue fruit symbol is on the bottom, then move the top layer back to its original panel and zoom into the image until the image of the stairs is revealed. Layer the stairs over the panel with the red-shirt boy to allow him to progress and move the stairs away once again. The monster will appear to change the panel with the stairs to nighttime once the panel has been moved.

Zoom out from the panel with the cart wheel and return to the candle on the table. Now, players can select the last object on the table to reveal a misty mountain scene. Zoom out from the stairs to reveal an upside-down image of a man holding a candle and continue zooming out until the panel shows a plate with an intricate blue design. Examine the image of the book and lay this panel over the plate. In the panel with the mountain, pan over to find the man with the cane climbing a set of stone stairs. Layering this panel over the panel with the book will cause the blue designs to rotate like gears. Wait for the design to make one rotation, then remove the layers blocking the plate and zoom into it. The image of a man anointing himself should be at the top, and players can zoom into this image until they reach the castle in the background. Aligning this panel to the left of the panel with the red-shirt boy will allow him to progress.
Return to the photograph wall and zoom the entire way into the photo of the old man in the bottom left corner. Align this panel so it’s to the left of the red-shirt boy, allowing him to progress once more and finally claim the blue fruit. With the fourth fruit added to the bowl, players have successfully completed Gorogoa's Chapter 4 and are ready to help the boy claim the fifth and final fruit in Chapter 5.
Gorogoa is available on PC, Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android.
