Frank & Penelope Trailer And Poster Revealed [EXCLUSIVE]

Screen Rant has the exclusive trailer and poster reveal for the upcoming film, Frank & Penelope. The Redbud Studios release arrives only in theaters on June 3 after having its world premiere at Italy's Riviera International Film Festival in May and being screened at Cannes. A romantic crime drama mixed with action and horror, the genre-bending movie follows a young couple on the run from their past who find themselves in more trouble than they bargained for when they decide to hide out in a nearly deserted town.

Frank (Billy Budinich) is a small-time criminal who meets Penelope (Caylee Cowan) at a strip club and immediately falls for her. Together, they decide to leave their lives behind and embark on a journey West with no particular destination in mind. But when one of those destinations ends up leading them to the “Table of Truth”, with the mysterious Chisos (Johnathon Schaech, DC's Legends of Tomorrow) at its head, the sins of their past become very much a part of their present. Rounding out the cast are prolific actors Kevin Dillon (Entourage) and Lin Shaye (the Insidious franchise), who help flesh out the strange and fascinating world of Frank & Penelope.

Frank & Penelope marks the feature film directorial debut of Sean Patrick Flanery (Dexter and The Boys season 3). Not only does he star in it alongside the fresh new leads, but he also wrote the screenplay based on an original story by John Thaddeus. Catch the first glimpse of his vision in the exclusive Frank & Penelope trailer below, which showcases the passion and carefree attitude of the young lovers juxtaposed with the danger they find themselves diving into:

Flanery gave a statement explaining what lay behind his decision to step behind the camera after decades of acting experience:

“I know that some dreams have more nutritional value than food, and that every one that is not acted on will eventually morph into regret. And, while I have had opportunities to direct in the past, none came with the old school auteur style carte blanche that producer Scott Dolezal was offering… to truly write without reins and shoot without guidelines. That phone call was one of the most wonderful and creative opportunities to have ever befallen me. And it’s not lost on me that these completely unbridled opportunities are unicorns in today’s Hollywood… but I have now seen that one horned f-er up close, and I want a herd.”

Redbud Studios may be new to the film production game, but its clear from the trailer that they have a very clear picture of the tone they are going for in Frank & Penelope. As producer Scott Dolezal described it, there is homage to great crime romances of the past such as Bonnie & Clyde, as well as to family-centered horror stories like The Hills Have Eyes. The poster, which Screen Rant has the honor of revealing, also emphasizes the Western-gone-wrong aspect of the story:

Audiences will have to wait until Frank & Penelop premieres to learn if love can outlast death, or if sin can be washed away through a hearty meal. But whatever the outcome of Flanery's romantic horror tale, it is sure to be one hell of a ride.
